LES HEAR IT FOR PAUL
+++ Delahunty’s true power revealed +++
Forever lurking at the back, keenly waiting for the right moment to strike, the subtly-wielded power of PAUL ‘MONTY’ DELAHUNTY should never be underestimated – so it is fitting that the crafty Kiwi has managed to influence top-level discussions about improving the Parkride just days after his tactically perfect victory at the Les Ingham Memorial RR. As we type these words, the club’s committee is currently locked in the boardroom on the top floor of Dynamo Towers fiercely debating the merits of having an alternative 8am start for the Saturday ride, which is exactly what the no-nonsense New Zealander suggested under his “Kiwispin” forum alter-ego… http://tinyurl.com/5rs7xd. By his own admission, Paul is not a regular face at the roundabout by Ham Gate, preferring instead to punish himself at races such as Sunday’s abovementioned E/1/2/3 event in Surrey, where he bridged across on the first lap of the super-tough Bletchingley course to join IAN ‘KING OF’ PAINE, RICHARD ‘WIN ‘EM’ SIMMONDS and the rest of the leading group. With 20 miles of the 75-mile race to go, Chris McNamara, Chris Moores and another rider attacked the break – so the unfazed Fulham firecracker simply soloed his way to the trio who unwittingly surrendered 1st place by making him lead out the slightly uphill sprint. You beauty! Dehydrated Ian finished 9th, despite literally losing his bottle twice thanks to the slippery, newly-polished cages that held them, while Rich’s encounter with the puncture fairy failed to stop him getting back to the break and landing 17th place… http://tinyurl.com/67b6oq. Daredevil Delahunty followed up his win with 8th at rain-drenched Hillingdon on Tuesday… http://tinyurl.com/67b6oq …and another Dynamo threesome showed their mettle this week by taking on the might of a retail giant. So come with us now to Cheshire as we reveal how the blue, black and orange crew clashed with the orange and black army. It’s time to see hut they’re made of…
STORE BLIMEY!
+++ Halfords marks Dynamettes in stage race +++
Well-drilled teamsters SUSANNAH OSBORNE, CHARLIE ‘VICI’ BLACKMAN and REBECCA CURLEY were pleasantly surprised on Sunday to find a member of the Halfords-Bikehut pro squad on their wheel whenever any of them got near the front of the Cheshire Classic’s 50-mile road race stage – so it was only polite that the Dynamettes returned the compliment by chasing down the High Street girls’ first break before taking 9th, 13th and joint 13th respectively. Charlie, who had finished 7th in the two-mile Northwich time trial, kept that position on the final GC, while Susannah claimed 18th place overall and Rebecca took 24th. And just look at the quality of the field… http://tinyurl.com/5aah6w. Brilliant stuff, ladies!
SADDLE DO NICELY
+++ PB for JLJ, despite mechanical +++
The ladies’ Dynamette chum JENNY ‘J-LLOYD’ JONES recorded a personal best as the sun came out in Padworth, Berks, on Saturday, although the duathlon dazzler’s dream of finishing the Newbury RC ’25’ in less than 60 minutes was sadly thwarted. On-form JLJ, who clocked in at 1:00:48, reveals: “I had to stop at a roundabout and my saddle came loose, so a 49 second improvement should be possible!” In typical fashion, Jenny’s fella RICHARD ‘WIN ‘EM’ SIMMONDS expressed dissatisfaction with his time of 53:21, which only earned the self-critical cycling coach 3rd place… http://tinyurl.com/6ofjtj. You’re too hard on yourself, pal!
GOODACRE PROGRESS
+++ Patrick’s road to recovery +++
On a final note, we were pleased to hear that PATRICK GOODACRE has been in touch with PAUL ‘ALL-BLUE’ HARKNETT and RUSSELL ‘RUSTY’ SHORT to update them on his progress. The 23-year-old, who crashed on the Parkride more than 18 months ago, wrote: “I am currently in a rehab home for brain injuries in Thames Ditton. It’s all going well – at the moment I’m beginning to learn to walk again – and much better than being in a hospital. I just wanted to thank both of you for helping out where possible, and I am also in unbelievable debt to John Orwin and Christian Kinmont. Thank you. I will be back cycling as soon as possible.” Patrick also wants to get in contact with other members via the website, so you may see a post from him soon…
THAT’S YER BAL-LOT
Like a returning officer locking the door of the polling station, the time has come for us to thank everyone who sent stuff in for this issue before we pack up the booths and tot up the votes. Always remember that we hold the balance of power but we would be nothing without you, our much-valued constituents. So please keep Dyna-mailing your race reports, news and gossip to dynamite@londondynamo.co.uk, or simply hit your reply button. The deadline, as ever, is Wednesday afternoon for Friday’s edition. And now, as we sift through the soiled ballots, it only remains for us to remind you about…
