DEVONSHIRE CREAMED
+++ Hoult leads Dynamo charge of Certini Tor podium +++
The much-loved DYNAMITE! ticker tape machine has been in danger of overheating during the past few months due to the best-ever crop of dazzling Dynamo results chugging out of its varnished oaken shell – and the poor, battered appliance began to take another pounding this week as news of SUSANNAH ‘GUNDOLA’ OSBOURNE and REBECCA ‘WHIRLIGIG’ CURLEY’s achievements at the women’s Nationals was piped into our famous soundproof bunker. Just seven months after taking up cycling, Rebecca finished 20th at the hilly 74-mile event in Duncombe Park, North Yorks, while Susannah took 19th… http://tinyurl.com/6b3vfx …and around the same time in Padworth, Berks, club founding father PAUL ‘CANNONBALL’ CALLINAN prepared for the forthcoming national 3-up time trial champs by clocking 56:03 at the Newbury RC ’25’, giving him 3rd place. Later that day on SERRL’s Lingfield circuit, Dynamo boss and former 1st cat TONY ‘PEETEER’ SMEDLEY checked himself out of the 3rd cat hotel by taking the No.3 spot at the tough 2/3/4 regional ‘A’ race in Edenbridge, Kent… http://tinyurl.com/633hdo …and down in Devon, fellow upgrader RICHARD ‘AV IT’ HOULT proudly stood on the 2nd step of the Certini Tor 2-Day podium, which also saw GUY ‘THE ENGINE’ POWDRILL take 3rd overall thanks to his 2nd place in the opening 63-mile stage and 3rd in the following four-mile time trial. Great work, fellas! Achieving 1st cat status less than six weeks after starting as a 3rd, red-hot Rich won the TT, took 7th on stage one and 6th on the final stage, despite nursing a cold from last week’s 5-Day – but according to his Tor chum JOE ‘BLOW’ HEMMANT, the UBS sensation and “resting” City boy Guy would have been 1st and 2nd respectively on the final GC had they reaped the time bonuses on offer during each lap of the last stage. Joe quips: “Is it the first time these pinstriped wonders have been on the wrong side of our busted bonus culture?” The Dynamo trip to Dartmoor was topped off by minibus driver MARTIN ‘PIN-UP’ WILLIAMSON winning the first stage and taking home £50 for best-placed 3rd cat… http://tinyurl.com/5lfy6z …while comeback kid DAVID ‘PINKY’ GARDNER used Ireland’s best liquid black magic to supplement the recovery drinks kindly donated by For Goodness Shakes chief STUART ‘POSTAL’ JEFFREYS. And speaking of recoveries, the Dynamo committee is putting together a bash to help all of you take a breather during the most hectic season the club has yet seen – so all you have to do is come with us now as we give you the details. It’s a pizza cake…

COIN AND GET IT
+++ Back to the Guinea for summer social +++
As many ‘Mos begin their frantic search for a bike box to transport their precious machines to the GF Pinarello in northern Italy, dedicated social secretary PAUL ‘ALL BLUE’ HARKNETT has been busy organising an after-sportive wind-down for those taking part and any other ‘Mos who might want to hang out with their favourite Dynamates on a summer’s evening. Everyone is invited to join this year’s Summer Social which takes place on Thursday 31 July at the Guinea pub on Bruton Place, W1, near Green Park Tube… http://tinyurl.com/5fwlg9 …so leave a post on Paul’s thread… http://tinyurl.com/6hpmm6 …if you’ll be popping along to the traditional mid-year venue. The evening starts at 6pm with a table booked for pizzas at 8:30pm – and we’ll be there with the DYNAMITE! box brownie. So behave yourselves!

WALL GONE WRONG
+++ Cyclefit boss ‘chooses’ 10th place +++
This edition wouldn’t be complete without mentioning the strong Dynamo presence on the syntactically-challenged Crystal Palace results sheet, headed by TOM ‘HEMNANT’ HEMMANT’s 2nd place in Tuesday’s E/1/2 race following a tumble that later prompted 4th-placed IAN ‘KING OF’ PAINE to snap the damage… http://tinyurl.com/6e8pfu. Oof! The last three places in the top 10 were taken by RICHARD ‘PLACING’ MASON, PAUL ‘MONTY’ DELAHUNTY and DAVID ‘DORIAN’ STREULE respectively, while CHARLIE ‘VICI’ BLACKMAN once again won the women’s race which also saw duathlete dazzler JENNY ‘J-LLOYD’ JONES take 3rd. But even more intriguing than Streuley being turned into “Straw” and Delahunty’s name getting a French makeover on the results list, it seems comeback crit vet JULIAN ‘WONDER’ WALL has been listed as 10th in the 3/4 race… http://tinyurl.com/5uut9r …after a rare lapse of concentration from the clipboard and Dictaphone crew. The Etape-bound Cyclefitter, who has been battling his way back to fitness this year, nonchalantly admits: “They were asking who came 10th and I knew I was there or thereabouts, so I volunteered my name.” As londoncylesport.com notes: “The bottom order is subject to possible change”. Fingers crossed it doesn’t, Jules!

…AND A FEW ‘MO THINGS
+++ At the Chertsey MoD women’s race on Saturday, JENNY ‘J-LLOYD’ JONES takes 5th, NAOMI ‘JUDGE’ ANDERSON finishes 8th and CLAIRE BEAUMONT is 10th… http://tinyurl.com/5qfhhz +++ TOBY ‘IS IT COS I IS’ BLACKMAN 7th in MoD 3rds… http://tinyurl.com/5w5c2a +++ PAUL ‘MONTY’ DELAHUNTY 11th in E/1/2 race… http://tinyurl.com/55mrsb +++

TICKERED OFF
The ticker tape results box is noisily winding down, which means there’s just enough time to thank everyone who sent stuff in for this issue before we turn it off. Always remember we are your Dynamatic news service but we would be nothing without you, our informants. So please keep Dyna-mailing your race reports, news and gossip to dynamite@londondynamo.co.uk. The deadline, as ever, is Wednesday afternoon for Friday’s edition. And now, as smoke begins to rise from our ancient machine, it only remains for us to remind you about…
