London Dynamo Newsletter #13, 25.06.04
LAYING IT ALL ON THE LYME
Our bags are packed, factor 15 is smeared along the ridge of our nose, and Mrs Newsletter is wearing her favourite kiss-me-quick sun hat at a jaunty angle. All of which can only mean one thing – your favourite four-a-month fumble through all things Dynamoid is about to go on its holidays. Hurrah! And we couldn’t have picked a better time to head for the beautiful British coast judging by the recent dearth of racing fixtures. With all the major players resting their legs for the Surrey League 5-day event, it fell to chiselled hunk MARTIN WILLIAMSON to get some serious miles in by leading a 280-mile round trip – yes, wincing reader, 280 miles – to Lyme Regis on Saturday. Literally several Dynamates will be pleased to hear that the unflappable rider pulled the 11-strong train almost the entire way there – and despite the potential for huge disasters, the entire trip passed without a hitch. The sun even came out as Martin, accompanied by his Thames Turbo triathlon pals and CHRIS CAMPBELL, rolled past Salisbury’s chalk hills on the journey towards the coast. After a mammoth curry feast and an overnight stay in a lovely cottage, the group were joined by ROB ‘THE SAINT’ JEFFROYS for the trip back while Rob’s wife Caroline rode behind in the broom wagon. It doesn’t get more professional than that! Six riders – including the three Dynamates, of course – managed to make it back to Martin’s plush Weybridge HQ on Sunday with a little bit of help from a gentle tail wind. The only slight hitch was an impromptu pub visit 15 miles outside of Salisbury after Chris got caught short with a dose of Delhi belly. Damn that chicken pasanda! And that, we’re afraid, is the end of your main course. If you’re reading this on the website, then you should see a pic of Rob and Chris riding from Lyme Regis. If you don’t see the photo, then the gremlins must have got it. In any case, please remember that we are a sturdy sandcastle, but we would be nothing without you, our sprawling, sun-kissed, sandy beach. So please send all your news, gossip, race reports and sightings of the elusive KEN BUIST to news@londondynamo.so.uk. The deadline, as ever, is Wednesday afternoon for Friday’s issue, which will see the Newsletter return to normal service with The Small Print and lots of racing exclusives. And now, as Mrs Newsletter hauls her enormous backpack onto her shoulders and immediately keels over in a fit of giggles, it only remains for us to remind you about…
